We make informal requests with friends, family, and relatives. We also use some informal requests in the official atmosphere e.g.

  • Let me state my opinion.
  • Let me complete my task.
  • Let me complete my work.

So, we use let and let’s for requests and suggestions.

How to use Let

First Sentence Structure of Let

Structure: Let + Object (living thing) + First Form of Verb + Object + Other word

Examples:

  1. Let me go. मुझे जाने दो।
  2. Let me come. मुझे आने दो।
  3. Let me do my work. मुझे मेरा काम करने दो।
  4. Let that girl ask a question. उस लड़की को सवाल करने दो।
  5. Let them come here. उन्हें यहाँ यहाँ आने दो।
  6. Let his brother do this job. उसके भाई को यह जॉब करने दो।
  7. Let me take dinner. मुझे डिनर कर लेने दो।
  8. Let him wait for me outside. उसे बाहर मेरा इंतजार करने दो ।
  9. Let them think about it. उन्हें इस बारे में सोचने दो।
  10. Let Neha study in this college. नेहा को इस कॉलेज में पढ़ने दो।
  11. Let me think about it. मुझे इस बारे सोचने दो।
  12. Let him sleep in this room. उसे इस कमरे में सोने दो।
  13. Let him stay here. उसे यहाँ रहने दो।
  14. Let the children play outside. बच्चों को बाहर खेलने दो।

Second Sentence Structure of Let

Structure: Subject + Helping Verb (According to Tense) + (not) + let + object (living thing) + First Form of Verb + object + other word

Example:

  1. He will not let me marry her. वह मुझे उससे शादी नहीं करने देगा।
  2. Father will not let you do this job. पिता जी तुम्हें यह नौकरी नहीं करने देंगे।
  3. He doesn’t let me study at home. वह मुझे घर पर नहीं पढ़ने देता है।
  4. Why do you not let me do this job? तुम मुझे यह काम क्यों नहीं करने देते हो।
  5. Will he let you go there with me? क्या वह तुम्हें मेरे साथ वहाँ जाने देगा।
  6. Teachers don’t let the children do homework in class. अध्यापक बच्चों को क्लास में होमवर्क नहीं करने देते हैं।
  7. He doesn’t let me sleep nowadays. वह आजकल मुझे सोने नहीं देता है।
  8. Why do you not let him study at home? तुम उसे घर पर क्यों नहीं पढ़ने देते हो।
  9. My mother will let me do nothing about it. मेरी माँ मुझे इस बारे में कुछ नहीं करने देगी।
  10. I know that you will not let me do this work. मैं जानता हूँ कि तुम मुझे यह काम नहीं करने दोगे।
  11. He will not let you go to the city by bus. वह तुम्हें बस से शहर नहीं जाने देगा।
  12. I will not let you play in this team. मैं तुम्हें इस टीम में नहीं खेलने दूँगा।
  13. Will you not live me in this village? क्या तुम मुझे इस गाँव में नहीं रहने दोगे।

Use of Let’s

Let’s (with the apostrophe) is the contraction of let us, a phrase meaning roughly we should, as in “Let’s go to the park.”

Structure: Let’s + First Form of Verb + object + other word

Example:

  1. Let’s do something new. चलो कुछ नया करते हैं। 
  2. Let’s think about it. आओ इस बारे सोचते हैं।
  3. Let’s go to meet him. चलो उससे मिलने चलते हैं।
  4. Let’s dance. आओ डांस करते हैं ।
  5. Let’s play the music. चलो गाना बजाते हैं।
  6. Let’s watch the movie at home. आओ घर पर मूवी देखते हैं।
  7. Let’s go from here. चलो यहाँ से चलते हैं।
  8. Let’s help the poor man. आइए गरीब आदमी की मदद करें।
  9. Sometimes my grandmother lets us go to the park in the evening and play on the long stretches of soft grass. Note: Here the meaning of lets is to allow or permit.
  10. When Sharon drives her twins to school, she lets them out of the car a block from campus so she can avoid the traffic. Note: In this example, let’s means to release.
  11. Let’s find a good place for dinner tonight with a patio so we can relax and enjoy the spring weather. Note: Here let’s mean we should
  12. Let’s hope the waiter lets us alone and doesn’t keep coming back to the table to refill our water glasses. In this example, let’s mean we should and let’s mean leaves.
  13. My heart jumps into my throat when the trapeze artist lets go of the bar. Here lets means release as part of the verb phrase lets go.
